To all you car salesman out there...?
I'm looking to enter the world of car sales next month and am very very serious about the idea of car sales. I must tell you i love cars and people and feel it suits me down to the ground. I would out of interest like to know how much an average car salesman earns each year including average commission. This would be for a normal brand E.G. Vauxhall and what about a prestige company like BMW or Audi?

- There isn't an answer for this, it depends on your skill, the sales manager, and finance manager skill, the location, inventory......you can make nothing or you can make over $100,000 a year. It would take you at least 5 years at any dealer to figure out an average earnings, but probably two months to figure out if you like the job. I've been selling cars for years and have seen 20 grand a year and 80 grand a year and everything in between. You need to know how to budget and save with unpredictable income.....you can make $8,000 one month and make $500 for the next three months.
- I would assume for Audi or BMW you make more because of higher commissions.
- Once fully trained, you will be expected to sell a minimum of 250 cars per year in a volume dealership like Vauxhall/Ford etc. Your basic salary will vary from about £6000 to £10000 per year. Average commission around £50 per sale so work it out. Do not expect an easy ride. There is so much to learn and you will be expected to prospect both new and existing customers every day, do lots of site work etc etc. I know of salesmen earning £80000+ but they are the exception and do everything they should.
